Fall Activewear (for the Instagram obsessed)
The more active I become, the more I realize how true it is that fitness is a lifestyle. And as fitness becomes more and more a part of my life, the more and more I want only one thing – CUTE ACTIVE WEAR.
Once upon a time workout gear meant old middle school t-shirts and raggedy sweatpants. Those days are no more. With the invention of the #postworkoutselfie, working out has become a fashion show in and of itself.
As much as I love active wear, my closet leaves much to be desired. There are still quite a few old middle school t-shirts and raggedy sweatpants in my drawer. I’d like to say it’s a “grunge” look, but who am I kidding. It’s moth holes and paint stains.
So I’ve planned for myself a hard reboot. Compiled a list of the most fabulous #postworkoutselfie outfits I can find, and I’m committing myself to buying one outfit a month until I have 7 legitimate outfits for winter workouts. That’s what adults do, right? They have multiple outfits? They don’t wear their old gym clothes until they gag and then wash them? TMI? Okayy, let’s start with some guidelines:
5 Guidelines to Instagrammable Active Wear:
2. Fish net
4. 2 piece sets
5. Monochrome patterns
I started noticing mesh take over active wear a few years ago and I was instantly obsessed. It helps in the heat, but you’ll stay comfortable in cooler weather, too. It adds so much interest to the texture, without being overtly sexy.
The worst active wear dilemma is when you’ve bought the perfect sports bra but no one can see it. So G-d created fishnet. Since I don’t have a rock-hard body quite yet I prefer my fishnet on the back or shoulders, but full fishnet tops definitely have charisma. With high-waisted yoga pants and a cute bralette even full fishnet is edgy without being too revealing.
I’m not sure what it is about asymmetry on your bottoms but it is so darn flattering and sporty. It can take otherwise dated-looking designs and instantly modernize them. I always think Tron remake.
4. 2 Piece Sets
It’s nothing new to fashion, it’s probably the oldest rule in the book. Whether it’s a suit and slacks, bra and underwear, or bag and shoes, perfectly matching sets are a fail-proof way to feel amazing. Your life will feel as put together as your outfit, if only for the 5 minutes you’re putting your outfit on. 😂
5. Monochrome Patterns
Honestly, going monochrome will never fail you. Monochrome bedroom? Classy. Monochrome wardrobe? Classy. Monochrome Instagram feed? Classy. Just keep it to those blacks, whites, and grays, and you’ll be hard pressed to make a bad outfit. Polk-a-dots, triangles, gradients, stripes, marble, animal prints. If you’re feeling fancy break the pattern with a bold-colored sneaker, and you’re fire.
Okay, now that we have the basic guidelines, here’s my favorite part.
Instagrammable Active Wear, the Master List:
For my first outfit, I decided on LilyBod’s leggings with a black Adidas sweatshirt and my new Adidas sneakers.
Next I needed to have ChillbyWill’s triangle combo with my old pink Nike Free’s.
I don’t want to plan too many outfits because I’m sure styles will change and things will sell out, but I definitely need one plain matching outfit in the near future.
And I just needed to share this one because it’s so cool. Imagine running at night in these.
A-whole-nother level of Tron. 😍
Anyway, time for me to go for a run.
Happy shopping! 😉
